Dear Families, I hope you are enjoying your summer vacation and staying cool from the heat! I wanted to send you an update regarding the State budget discussions. This year the legislature and Governor Rendell signed a budget bill on time. Gov. Rendell was hoping to get an increase of $354 million in spending for education. However in a compromise, the budget includes an increase of $250 million for education. Normally most of our cyber alerts focus mainly on state issues affecting our public cyber schools. But currently on the federal level there is an Amendment to the House Supplemental Appropriations bill cutting education reform funding. If this bill passes the Senate, approximately 40% of fiscal year 2010 funding would be cut from the Charter School Programs. I want to encourage you to contact Senators Arlen Spector and Bob Casey and ask them to oppose this Appropriations Bill. I have included their contact information below. You can see the full alert that was issued by the National Alliance of Public Charter Schools by clicking here: http://www.publiccharters.org/node/2822 Please let your voice be heard! Thank you all for helping to protect our public cyber schools! Keep moving forward!
