May 29, 2009 Harrisburg PA – Pennsylvania Families for Public Cyber Schools today applauded US Secretary of Education Arne Duncan who earlier commented that states that block innovations like charter schools and place caps on enrollment would not be helping their chances to receive federal stimulus dollars. “We are pleased by Secretary Duncan’s comments and the government’s commitment to charter schools” said Cindy Strausburger, President of PA Families, “It is also encouraging to see such bipartisan support for these innovative schools.” “Secretary Duncan made it clear that any efforts to thwart innovation by imposing caps or other obstacles for parents and children will put at risk our federal tax dollars being invested in our children,” Strausburger continued. “We were thrilled with what he had to say. And, we hope that our state leaders heed his advice, especially as they debate the state budget this year.” Read Secretary Duncan’s comments to the AP here: http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5iQ72cmvb2846meWCIAJArK1w 2HmAD98FJOV00.
PA Families for Public Cyber Schools was formed in 2006 to help protect public cyber schools. The organization represents over 20,000 families of public cyber school students. These innovative schools have provided students in the Commonwealth with a quality education. The goal of PA Families is to educate and dispel the myths surrounding cyber education and to protect these schools from those who threaten to eliminate them.
